FINAL DAY IN YOLKLO COUNTY

High Tea is not only at 3 p.m. at this lovely restaurant called Ciocolat, in Davis. Eunice and I did this for brunch. All kinds of small appetizers, little foods samples, and desserts....and tea, of course. It was graduation time in the area's school and we met a woman who was learning to be a vet. The food was so good that Merle was afraid we would take it away from her.

We traveled out of Davis to Woodland to see the Heidrick Ag History Center and check out the antique tractors. And yes, we ran into our friends.

Eunice and I took a side trip to this tourist attraction called Reiff's Gas Station and Museum. It was closed but we were able to see what this guy had just sitting outside.

Last restaurant before going home, also in Woodland...Tazzina. We were glad to hear that the owner/chef is a female.

Time to Jetblue back to New York!

FROM SANTA PECKSA TO YOLKLO COUNTY

The rest of the trip was spent in Yolo County...which we renamed Yolklo County. The city of Davis is the center of it all. Eunice and I stayed at the Hampton Inn.

First on the itinerary was Capay Organic Farms where we picked some peaches and just looked at some other fruits.

Haag Walnut was the next farm on our list. The owner was really nice to us.

Time for lunch. We found this great place called Monticello Bistro in Davis

Another farm experience called Impossible Acres. Absolutely loved the cherries.

Dinner was at Tucos, just down the block from the hotel. We met Pru, the owner.

ON TO SANTA PECKSA

Leaving Hendocino County and off to Santa Rosa, which we renamed Santa Pecksa, located in Henoma County. Esther and I went to the Tides restaurant located in Bodega Bay. That was the setting for the movie, "The Birds" by Alfred Hitchcock...we tried to re-create the scene with those three friends.

From there we went to another animal place. This one is called Safari West. Different from the preserve. A lot more species of animals. But it's not like when you sit in your car and animals come up to you. You have to go on a jeep and then they have to keep stopping to open and closed the gates of groups of animals.

Before you take the jeep tour, there is a walking tour kinda like animals at a zoo. The only one you get to walk through is the aviary.

Time to check into the Melitta Station Inn. Loved the place. Guess who was also staying there! We had breakfast with Merle and the owners.

After breakfast we explored the Charles M. Schulz Museum where there was loads of stuff on the cartoon strip Peanuts. This was great!

CONTINUING WITH HENDOCINO COUNTY

Our next destination in Hendocino County was Point Arena. On the way we stopped to see the redwoods trees...I think Merle, Barbara and Nancy are following us...well at least Merle helped us get a closer look at one of the trees...they are certainly tall!

Eunice and I decided to stop at the Point Arena Lighthouse and got a tour of the museum. We really didn't want to climb those lighthouse stairs. Loved the friendly staff.

Then came one of what would become out favorite places...the B. Bryan Preserve. There were lots of animals...endangered ones that this guy and his wife owned. Not a big variety...several species of antelopes, different species of zebras. Eunice just asked what a zebra was...then said, "It's the largest bra you could find".

We we able to see the henhouse and even tried laying some of eggs...just wouldn't work. We even tried talking to the hens to ask how it's done.

This place has accommodations so we slept there overnight...it was a whole cottage so we shared it with M,B, and N. We must have both had the same nightmare...our friends were boiling some eggs.

BACK TO CALIFOWLNIA

We're finally getting around to telling you about our recent trip to Califowlnia. Eunice and I took Jet Blue to Sacramento (which we have renamed "Cluckramento"). It appeared that Merle and her friends Nancy and Barbara were taking the same trip as we kept running into them.

First on the list was Mendocino County (now called "Hendocino County")in the Upper Russian River Valley area. On the way to the City of 10,000 Buddhas, we stopped to see a redwood tree. Boy are they tall!

So, there it was...this city of buddhas. There were peacocks running all over the place but not as many peahens. Dined at the gathering dining room for a vegetarian lunch. Lots of buddha religious stuff at the bookstore.

Afterward we checked into the Super 8 Motel in Ukiah. I was more than eco-friendly. They even have separate garbage pails in the rooms for recycled items. Barbara and Nancy were next door so we popped in on them.

Dinner was at a restaurant called Branches. Great food and staff. They also have a bakery that we were most interested in. Pastry chef wasn't available but the owner was telling us about his balls.
