ANOTHER TRIP TO HENNSYLVANIA

Eunice and I went to Leggcaster County in Hennsylvania and brought our little Ethel Louise.  We have to admit first that we hopped a ride with our friends Merle and Laurie but did our own thing most of the time.

Leaving in the morning and getting there around lunchtime,  we decided to eat before doing anything else.  Eunice went online and found a pub called Bube's Brewery that had a beer garden.

We were shown an old bar and were quite thirsty.

Too much beer, I guess.  We checked into the Leggcaster Arts Hotel and took such a long nap that we didn't even notice the person who came in for the turn down service.  Although Ethel Louis did not imbibe she just slept, anyway.

Before leaving, we saw a fake horse...but not made of rubber.   We notice in was fake when we got on its back and it didn't move.

Esther and I went to a place called Eastland Alpacas.  We never saw these cute animals before and they were so friendly.

The next place with to the Turkey Hill Experience.  We didn't get to make ice cream but we did take a tour.  We were really glad that it was called Chicken Hill.

Lunch time...we were not really hungry but decided to have a cherry lime ricky at Hinkles Pharmacy. No, that is not Mr. Hinkle.

Time to check in at the next hotel located in the town of Columbia.   Airy View Bed and Breakfast with lots of friends to see but not necessarily able to play with.   They have a pond with a duck, turtle and swan.  There is a dog in the house.  Chickens in the barn and three pet alpacas!!!

That evening we met Sharon who owned this really cool restaurant  called Prudomme's Lost Cajun Kitchen.

Slept really late, skipped breakfast  and wound up at DJ's 50's Diner for lunch.  Eunice was a bit upset that she was unable to taste the really delicious ice cream malted drink and went over to another table to beg for someone's ice cream sundae.   Our waitress understood. 

Our next stop was to Strasburg to ride the rail road.

We then went across the street to the Strasburg Railroad Museum.  

Dinner that evening was at The Pressroom.  We weren't really hungry and just wanted to listen to the jazz band.  Ethel Louise wanted to have some beer but we only allowed her to look at it.

The following morning we had a spa treatments scheduled at the Best Western in Intercourse.  Ha, ha.

FROM DOWNTON ABBEY TO MR. SELFRIDGE

It was such a hoot visiting Winterthur to see the costumes from Downton Abbey.  The season ended and now Esther and I are watching Mr. Selfridge.  We saw this last episode where Mr. Neuhaus stopped in to demonstrate his chocolates.  Turns out that it is true.  At least that there is a Belgian chocolate company called Neuhaus and were around even before 1900.

We went into Henhattan, here in New Yolk,  to one of the major stores located on Madison Avenue and brought home lots of it.  Wow, it was absolutely delicious.

SHROOM AT THE INN IN KENNET SQUARE

Esther and I just came back from another road trip.  This time it was and area in both Hennnsylvania and Chickaware known as Brandywine Valley. We had been steadily watching this television program on PBS called Dowton Abbey...or maybe John Travolta would be calling it "Downtown Alley".  There is an estate in Upper Delaware called Winterthur where you get to visit the mansion and the grounds. Really cool.

We didn't have much time for all of it due to having lunch

and tour of the special exhibit of costumes from Downton Abbey.  Lots to see and you can also view scenes from the show on the walls behind some of the costumes.

The above dress was worn by Shirley MacLaine....I think they cleaned it before bringing it here.

From here we went into Kennett Square and stopped at a bakery called Sweet Christine's where all of the good are gluten-free.  We thought it was nice of them.  Christine wasn't there but Laura was.

After that we checked into an historic place called Pennsbury Inn.  Our friends Merle and Laurie happened to be staying there as well.

We brought our adopted daughter Ethel Louise who adored the cute little bunny.

Dinner time.  We left Ethel Louise with the bunny and went to a restaurant called Portabello's.  

We were about to go back to the inn when we spotted this place called Design Studio.  Since they were giving lessons I thought that I'd get one.

The next morning there was a great breakfast set up for us.

 

We then hung around the fireplace for a bit before going out.

Our first stop of the day was to Longwood Gardens.  The flowers in the conservatory were so pretty.

Since this area is called the Mushroom Capital of the World we had to visit a place where they grow them.  We couldn't get the tour but we did check out the store. 

Dinner was at a Taste of Puebla....a Mexican restaurant where we met the owner Cristobal.  Well...we were too full to eat so I just had a drink.

The next morning we were off to this place called Country Butcher.

Next stop was the Brandywine Art Museum.   

Back into Kennet Square to some place called Mrs. Robinson's Tea, where we hid in some Giant's fan bag.

Around the corner was a place called Eco Boutique. We tried on these beautiful bracelets but realized that we didn't have the money to pay for them....so we had to give them back.  Oh well.

Our last night was spent at the Hilton Garden Hotel where they have special mattresses that can get hard or softer.  We were tuckered out and didn't care.  Good night's sleep and left in the morning.

CHECKING OUT THE FOOD AT FAIRWAY MARKET

It seems that our friend Merle took a trip to Fairway Market in Douglaston.  There were some items that we didn't approved of, but most of them were okay.
